How To Clean Inside A Refrigerator
Refrigerators help keep your milk from going sour and your leftover spaghetti from turning bad but refrigerators get dirty and tend to accumulate strange smells over time. Every now and then, it's a good idea to clean the inside of your refrigerator as this is where you put the bulk of your food and as such, it's important to keep the appliance clean and sanitary. This is something most of us neglect to do as often as we should but it can be a very quick process (~20 minutes) that you won't regret doing. Listed below are the 5 steps to clean the inside of your refrigerator.
1. Prepare
To clean the inside of your refrigerator, you will want to use basic, natural, and non-toxic cleaning solutions. We suggest using white vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio as your solution that will be used in a spray bottle. Pretty basic but this solution can be very effective in cleaning most areas of a house including your refrigerator. You will also want to make sure your sink is empty as you will be washing any removable drawers/shelves in the sink and clear out counter space so you have room to place your food when you take it out.
2. Empty The Fridge
You can either take everything out at once or in sections as you clean, we prefer to take as much as we can out at once granted the amount of counter space we have available. While doing so, you may discover a rotten tomato or moldy cheese you forgot about so this step also serves as an audit for all your food. There also may be containers that have crumbs or drips on the sides and/or bottoms; you should wipe these down before putting these back in the fridge.
3. Wash Shelves/Drawers
Most shelves and drawers in your refrigerator should be removable. You will want to remove these and take them to the sink to wash out with warm water and soap. A magic eraser is helpful for getting out any tough stains and a toothbrush can be extremely handy for cleaning any crevices/corners. Set the shelves and drawers aside to dry as you wash them.
4. Clean The Inside Of The Fridge
Use your vinegar-water solution and spray the insides of your fridge. Start from the top and work your down as any loose crumbs and particles will fall to the bottom and make it easier for you to clean it thoroughly. One thing you don't want to miss are the tracks along the edges. These tend to accumulate a lot of buildup and can be easily cleaned. Again, any tough stains that you can't get out by just wiping with your cloth, you can use a magic eraser. Any remnants at the bottom can then be swept away or vacuumed up.
5. Put Everything Back
Once everything has been cleaned, you can then reassemble the shelves and drawers and then return the food back to the refrigerator.
Now you have a clean and nice looking refrigerator! These 5 steps make it easy and quick to clean your fridge.
